Reporting March 2017 Performance

  • UK online retail sales grew 13.2% in March
  • Month-on-month performance was +4.4%
  • Excluding travel, the Index recorded annual growth of 12.6% and a monthly increase of 9.9% from February
  • Average basket value (excl. Travel) reached £88 in March 2017, an increase from March 2016 at £82
  • The average conversion rate (excl. Travel) in March was 4.7%, level with February 2017
  • The apparel sector grew 10.3% year on year in March 2017 – Menswear had a quiet month with zero Year on year growth
  • Beers Wines and Spirits took a fall with negative 8.6% growth – the lowest performance since April 2016
  • The gifts sector made two consecutive months of negative growth, reporting a decline of 1%
  • The Health and Beauty sector reported its best month in over a year with 15.3% year on year growth
  • Britons spent an estimated £10.66bn shopping online during March
  • Mobile retail sales (tablets & smartphones) grew 25.0% year-on-year in March, and grew 3.5% from the previous month
