Dixons.co.uk website to close
Electricals retailer Dixons is closing its online store, Dixons.co.uk, after six years trading online. The Currys and PC World owner closed all its Dixons high street stores in 2006 and moved online to compete with its pureplay rivals, including Amazon.
The retailer’s UK chief executive Katie Bickerstaff said that the company does not see a place for Dixons.co.uk, alongside its Currys.co.uk and PC World websites.
In September Dixons reported 7% growth in like-for-like sales in the first quarter in the UK and Ireland, boosted by sales of televisions in the run up to the Olympics. While multichannel sales were also up by 48%, the retailer said online-only sales through PIXmania and Dixons.co.uk have declined.
