Facebook reaches 1 billion users
Over one billion people now use Facebook to stay in touch online, according to the social networking giant’s CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg. The site, which launched in 2004, added 200 million new users in the last year.
Mr Zuckerberg said: "To be able to come into work every day and build things that help a billion people stay connected with the people they care about every month, that's just unbelievable."
But the 28-year-old technical guru also admitted that Facebook had been in a “tough cycle” since the company floated on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange in May. Shares in the social networking site have plunged around 50% since the company’s IPO.
Mr Zuckerberg, who currently controls more than half of the voting stock, said Facebook would be targeting new and current users on mobile devices to expand the site’s customer base and increase revenue.
