Next boosted by strong online sales

Next has reported total group sales grew 4.5% in the first half of the year, boosted by a strong performance online. The retailer revealed store sales edged up 0.2% in the 26 weeks to 28th July, with sales from new stores offsetting lower sales from its established shops. Sales at Next Directory, which are mostly now made online, grew 13.3% pushing up total revenues in the six month period.

The strong performance has led Next to raise its profits forecast for the full year. The retailer now expects to make pre-tax profits of between £575m and £620m, up from a previous estimate of between £560m and £610m. Next predicts full-year sales growth of between 2% and 4.5%.
