Strong online sales offset a fall in high street sales at Next
Next reported sales at its Directory home shopping business grew 11.8% in the 13 weeks to 28th April. However, the clothing and household furnishings retailer said retail sales fell by 3.9% in the period, giving an overall growth of 1.4% for the group.
The retailer said it expects total sales will grow by between 1% and 4% in the first half of the year and that profits would be ahead of last year. Next is forecasting profits of between £560m and £610m for the year to January 2013, compared with last year’s pre-tax profits of £570m.
