John Lewis to launch designer fashion web store
John Lewis has announced it will launch an online fashion store in the autumn to rival online retailer Asos. The new web store will feature fashion brands that the department store group already sells, such as Jigsaw, Ted Baker and Whistles, alongside its own John Lewis brand lines.
The company's managing director Andy Street said the new site would be John Lewis’ version of Asos. The web site’s name has not yet been disclosed.
John Lewis reported sales in fashion, which includes childrenswear and beauty products, were up 4.7% to £928m in the year to January 31, 2009. Sales at John Lewis Direct increased by 24.2% to £332.9 million, the retailer announced today.
